What the buyer is requesting
Details
Technical Services is seeking a qualified supplier to undertake the demolition of a 15m tall process tank (including a 2m tall platform/agitator on
top of the tank) at an abandoned mine site near Charters Towers.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development, Technical Services
(TS) team, manages the Abandoned Mine Lands Program (AMLP). This relates to protecting public health, safety and
environmental risks associated with abandoned mines, through a combination of care and maintenance activities, as well as
proactive remediation projects.
The former Chariah mine site is located within Charters Towers and was previously used for processing gold ore. The site
contains a capped tailings dam, some residual tanks within the former processing area, and an un-remediated Process Water
Dam (PWD). The department has grant funding from the Financial Provisioning Scheme to undertake remediation of the PWD
through FY 2024/25, including reprofiling and capping of tailings and sediments within the PWD and adjacent Tailings Hill area
as well as demolishing remining mining infrastructure.
As part of the ongoing remediation of the site, the demolition of a 15m tall process tank (including a 2m tall platform/agitator on
top of the tank) is required. The removal of the process tank will assist in achieving long-term site safety. The purpose of this
procurement activity is to engage a suitable supplier to undertake the demolition works and remove waste material from site.
Desired Outcomes ('Nice to haves', Conditions & Warranties, SLA's, Project benefits)
Details
Re-use and/or recycle of demolished material to achieve better environmental outcomes. Perform the works safely within the specified timeframes and according to project scope.
